Some other views past and present of Strathconon and surrounding area

I have many other pictures of the district that I will put on the site in the very near future. Please remember to let me know of pictures you have lying around and do not hesitate to contact me for full size images of anything you see here.

Loch Achilty

The alternative route into the glen is via Contin, the road across from the Achilty Hotel. The road swings round Loch Achility and reveals the following views...

..this REALLY does happen when you get married in Strathconon

Ok, so this video is the Maldives and not Strathconon but it IS the Strathconon Two on honeymoon so thought it still worthy of inclusion.  Just click on the link....

...not changed too much in 50 years..

Conon Bridge

Conon Bridge is about 16 miles or so from Strathconon and has always been a very interesting town. The 2 pictures below show the differences over the last 70 yaers. However, it hasn't changed all that much...

Conon Bridge, I think in early 1930's

..with a lot more houses now than there used to be

Loch Ussie

The pictures below of Loch Ussie are interesting because many people from Strathconon moved there following the clearances of 1850. The house in the first picture is in the Knockfarrel area and is typical of what most of the black house dwellings would have been like at that time. I am fairly certain the picture is from the early 1900's - certainly pre-first world war. I was quite surprised to actually find the ruins of the old house for the modern equivalent. It felt quite eerie standing amongst the remains while holding the old photograph of how it used to be. If you don't believe me, then go and try it yourself!
